The overlap between
the performing arts and
the art of business performance
has fascinated me for decades
and marks the core of my brand.
Last week on Oct. 23,
I delivered a keynote
for 250 leaders in legal departments
who work at the enterprise level.
The theme of this conference:
“ELEVATE YOUR IMPACT.”
And this particular keynote was
designed to help these professionals
do just that.
Every communication is an art.
In movies, plays, comedy, and even choreography,
we’re always highly aware of the
experience we’re creating
for the audience.
And the same is critical for business.
How do you inspire people’s imaginations?
Their feelings? Their thoughts?
What images can you include
to help make your story come to life
and influence people’s decisions?
How do you create a compelling narrative
and deliver your message
with clarity, authenticity, and ease?
I love looking at the connections
between the worlds of
performance and business.
And I love learning more about each,
sitting in and listening to sessions
at the conferences where I speak,
meeting with key leaders AND also
then having eye-opening conversations
with amazing friends in the arts.
In addition to the keynote,
last week was filled with these….
In clockwise order: Frank Oz (director, performer, producer); Charissa Barton (choreographer); Alan Tudyk (actor, writer); Pete Docter (writer, director, producer); Amanda Docter (organizer extraordinaire); Lynne Hale (former head of PR for Lucasfilms).
New perspectives. New insights.
New information. And a lot of laughs.
For you:
how can you continue to
immerse yourself in your passions–
whether through activities, reading,
videos, or surrounding yourself
with people who are experts
in the fields you love?
Keep growing.
Keep learning.
And keep bringing value to others.
Risk Forward & Rock On,
P.S. At Pixar over lunch, Pete, Frank & I had a conversation about using colored index cards to map out a story or message…what we (in the Rock The Room community) call “V-Cards”. The V-Cards are a favorite technique among the “Rockers” – my students. If you’d like to learn how to use this technique (and more) so you can knock your presentations & communications out of the park, we’re hosting a very special Rock The Room virtual small group experience in December. To get further info, please email Studio(at)VictoriaLabalme.com, tell us about your communication/presentation interests (i.e. improving your live, virtual, video, meetings, sales, consulting, keynotes, workshops, etc.) and we’ll make sure to keep you in the loop.
