The Unacknowledged Jobs & What We Can All Do

Early in my acting days,

in my first professional production after college,

Nicholas Anthony Ballas,

the director of the Santa Fe Actors Theater,

taught me how important a crew is.

He pointed to the booth high above

where the lighting and sound team

were located.

“These people are important.

Without them, we have no show.”

I never forgot it.

Fast forward to this week

when I delivered a

RISK FORWARD® keynote +

ROCK THE ROOM® workshop

for 100+ state procurement professionals.

What does a state procurement professional do?

Most people don’t know.

These are the essential souls

who make sure goods and services

that their states need

are sourced and contracted,

ethically and responsibly.

And they do a lot more than that.

NASPO (National Association of

State Procurement Professionals)

—who organized this conference—

provides education and resources

to help this community lead, excel

and work with integrity.

And it made me wish that

every U.S. citizen could thank

these individuals for what they do.

But YOU can do that now

for those in your realm.

Who are the “crew members”

supporting YOU in your life and work,

who go unnoticed and unacknowledged?

And what can you do to

see them and honor them?

A thank you note…?

A word of appreciation…?

Or even a small award?

These people are often

behind the metaphorical curtain

or up in the “booth”

and there is no “show” in life

without a crew to make it happen.

Risk Forward & Honor On,
