It’s easy to get pulled “off course”
by pursuing a path, project, or product line
or by doubling down
on a professional or personal skill
simply because you’re “good” at it
…but there’s a price to pay.
It can be costly not only
in terms of your time, energy and talent,
but also in terms of your soul
(or your organization’s soul)
and what you’re truly meant
to contribute to the world.
This story about those crucial choices
is one of my favorites
and involves the famous
photographer, Eliot Porter.
I shared the story on stage
in front of 2000 photographers.
Regardless of your role, I guarantee
the message here will have application
to your work and life.
Please share the post with those
who might need to hear this.
Risk Forward & Rock On,
P.S. A version of this story appeared in the original manuscript of my book RISK FORWARD on pg. 108. In the end, we cut it out (along with other components) to keep the book brief, but it remains one of my favorites.
