It is so easy these days to get pulled into the non-stop flow of work, spinning from email to email, conference call to conference call, meeting to meeting.
Business whirs along, zipping you into a Cuisinart blender…a communication frenzy.
This week I was in 4 cities, on many planes, quite a few highways, multiple meetings and on more conference calls than I can count, working with different executives on upcoming presentations and preparing myself for 6 in the coming few weeks. Although I love what I do, by Friday my eyes were stinging from staring at my computer screen, reading through emails, coordinating schedules and preparing notes.
But yesterday’s and today’s kayaking trips with the wind in my face and the chill on my knuckles, the clarity of the lake and the distance of the sky put it all back into perspective, and I am ready for the week to begin.
Too often I work through the weekend, and when Monday rolls around, I am wiped. You, too, right?
So………..what puts it all back into perspective for you?
Be sure to add that activity to next Sunday’s plans. Or Wednesday’s plans, for goodness sake.
You’ll be a better consultant, presenter, and communicator as a result. Nobody wants a crazy-busy leader, manager, colleague, parent or friend. Get your work done; then go play.
