Well,
it was an utterly magical evening.
The event: the 2024
Disney Legends Award Ceremony,
this past Sunday Aug 11.
I thought I’d share 3 insights
from these exceptional artists,
along with a festive 1-min
highlight reel with pix and clips
from an unforgettable night.
What struck me about so many
of the acceptance speeches
was how many of the honorees
remarked on how they…
- didn’t “do it” alone
- had been uncertain or scared at times in their career
- focused on their craft for the love of it; not for accolades, money, or awards.
In a society where individualism,
appearing fearless,
and earning accolades or attention
seem to be at an all-time high,
this messaging from artists
at the top of their game offers
important signposts for us all.
The 2024 Class of Disney Legends
included the likes of
Harrison Ford, Jamie Lee Curtis,
Angela Bassett, James Brooks,
Miley Cyrus
and many others…
and their words are a beacon
for anyone finding their way.
And oh-my-goodness,
does Disney know how to
create experiences and memories.
Here are a few of mine.
So, cheers to embracing
all the emotions
that make us human—
from uncertainty and fear
to joy, wonder and delight;
and cheers to remembering
that our success
doesn’t happen in a vacuum;
that we may be scared at times
(and that’s ok); and that
the quality of our work
can be its own reward.
